ILLUMINATE : THE NURISHA TRUST ODYSSEY

Updated: Nov 27, 2024

They say, "Give a hungry man a fish, and he will come back tomorrow; teach a man how to fish, and he will feed himself forever." At Kianda Foundation, we believe in this philosophy of empowerment, and for decades, we have been committed to transforming the lives of women through vocational training in various fields such as hospitality, catering, tailoring, knitting, and agriculture.

Our journey began in 1961 when we founded the Kibondeni Catering Training School, focused on equipping women with the skills needed for a sustainable future. By 1969, Kibondeni School of Institutional Management gained recognition as an independent educational institution, offering certificates to its graduates. Since then,

more than 6,000 women have passed through its doors, with an impressive 75% securing formal employment or starting their own businesses.

Hospitality and catering emerged as particularly impactful, with most graduates finding stable employment in these fields.

Recognizing the transformative impact of this training, Kianda foundation sought to expand its reach. Thus, Nurisha Trust was established to scale this work. True to its name—Nurisha, meaning “to enlighten”—the Trust aims to bring light and opportunity to more women.

The journey continued in 2010 with the opening of Tewa Training Centre in Kilifi County. Tewa’s mission is to provide high-quality education to girls and women, equipping them with professional skills that meet international standards. By preparing students to meet the demands of the global job market, Tewa ensures that its graduates are highly competitive and ready to excel.

Nurisha Trust has illuminated thousands of lives, offering women not just skills, but the chance to rewrite their stories and secure their futures.

You can be part of this life-changing mission. Consider donating today to help us continue empowering women across Kenya. Visit our website to learn more about how you can contribute to the Nurisha Trust's impactful work.
